The Herzogstand is a mountain in the Bavarian foothills of the Alps 75 kilometres 47 mi south of Munich.
The Herzogstand is particularly striking because of its exposed and free-standing location high above Lake Walchensee, the largest and deepest lake in the Bavarian Alps. It offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains, including the Wetterstein, Karwendel, and Rofan ranges.
With its two peaks, the Herzogstand is a popular destination for hikers and mountaineers. The Herzogstandhaus, a mountain inn located on the summit of the mountain, offers food, drinks, and accommodations. The Herzogstand can be reached via several hiking trails or by taking the Herzogstandbahn, a cable car that runs from the valley below.
